It's the day each year when Tonawanda-area restaurants get to offer samples of some of their best menu items.  It's known as the Taste of the Tonawandas and I got to sample some of the items on Sunday at Gateway Harbor Park in North Tonawanda.

By far, my favorite item was the Pulled Pork Tacos from Smoke on the Water.  It's hand-carved pulled pork with cole slaw and Kansas BBQ sauce on a flour tortilla.  Delicious.  If that's one of that restaurant's regular menu items it's worth stopping in for.

In addition to Smoke on the Water the other restaurants at this year's Taste of the Tonawandas were:

  • Mississippi Mudd's/Old Man River
  • TC Wheeler's
  • Mooney's Sports Bar & GrillPizza Amore
  • The Great Foodini
  • Mandarin Garden Restaurant
  • Tops Deli
  • Bonefish Grill
  • Webster's Kitchen
  • J & L BBQ
  • Canal Club 62
  • Oliver Street Bakery

All food and beverage items were by ticket only ranging from two to 10 tickets.  Tickets were 50-cents each.

A couple of live bands provided the entertainment, plus children's activities including face painting and balloon animals and a Blessing of the Boats.
