A Record for Rochester and Wind Advisory for Buffalo
It's a new record! Niagara Falls,NY had a high temperature on Thursday of 63 breaking the previous mark of 58. Rochester hit 67, one tick above their record of 66.
The warm weather will stay with Western and Central New York for Friday as some areas will get to 75 degrees before a large front passes through. With that will be some strong winds. There is a risk for sever storms south of Buffalo on Saturday.
The Bad News:
The wind advisory will begin Saturday morning and continue through Saturday night with cold air and the possibility of snow. That's correct, just when you we were ready to put away the shovels and pull the lawn furniture out for the start of an early spring, Mother Nature hits us with an upper cut.
Historically speaking, this is nothing new. One of the biggest storms that Buffalo has ever faced was a snow storm on St. Patrick's Day in 1936. Most of us who have been in Buffalo our entire lives will bring this legendary storm up every late February.
According to forgottenbuffalo.com , "This late season storm dropped over 20 inches during one afternoon seizing the city"
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside.
Good News:
There will be a significant warm up next week as the daytime highs will be back in the 60s and overnight lows in the 40s.
