The weather was perfect this past Friday night for high school football, under the lights, all around Western New York. The Hamburg Bulldogs played against the Amherst Tigers in their homecoming game this past Friday.

As the sun was starting to set, and the homecoming parade was just ending, it was time for football to begin on the field at Hamburg High School. But before the game began we witnessed one of the most emotional moments of the weekend. As the Hamburg High School marching band performed the National Anthem under the lights at Howe Field in Hamburg.

My son Hank and I had the pleasure of sitting with and the band because those were the only seats we could find in a packed grandstand. It was a payoff for sure as the band seemed flawless in their rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.

It was a really cool moment for me because it was the first high school football game that I attended with our son who just started kindergarten in the Hamburg school system this September. Seeing all the fans, and having the perfect weather, and holding my sons hand during the anthem definitely had me feeling all the feels on Friday night.

It was a great game as Hamburg walked away with a win over Amherst. The game was also featured live on Spectrum News. There was not much to complain about for the Hamburg bulldog fans as homecoming 2021 seem to be a success all around. Friday night football under the lights is one of the best ways to start a weekend!
