Growing up, I was your typical baseball fan. Like most kids, I had a pretty incredible baseball card collection (which I wish I still had). My favorite team was always the Cincinatti Reds. The Big Red machine was on fire back in the 70's with players like Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Dave Concepcion, Tony Perez and Joe Morgan. After the Reds won their last World Series over 20 years ago, my interest in major league baseball has dwindled.  I was also a huge Eric Davis fan. He was the player that re-sparked my interest in baseball back in the 80's. Nowadays, I just can't get excited about baseball the way I used to. It seems like we fans need a certain player to get us back in the game at times. For many people right now, that player is Jim Thome. You are probably not aware of this, but Jim Thome is about 4 swings away from joining baseball's 600 home run club. Aol.com has more on Jim Thome.
