How is Arnold Schwarztenegger going to be remembered years from now? As an actor in action movies? As a politician? As a womanizer?
Give him credit for his determination to make a name for himself.

He was born in Austria, began bodybuilding at 15 and at the age of 20 became the youngest person to win the title of Mr.Universe. He went on to win a dozen more world bodybuilding titles.

He hardly spoke any English when he came to the United States when he was 21, but after he appeared in the documentary “Pumping Iron” he got an offer to play the movie role of “Conan the Barbarian” It was a huge hit. And so was he.

He did a “Conan” sequel, then came the string of “Terminator” movies, “Total Recall”, “Predator”, “True Lies”, “Twins”, “Kindergarten Cop”. Not all of them great movies, but he was a star. Everybody knew him.

Along the way he married Maria Shriver – the niece of President John Kennedy

But then a big career change. It was in the summer of 2003 when he was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno that he announced he was running for governor of California. He won and it was on today’s date that he was sworn in as governor to fill out the term of Gray Davis.

He was elected to another term in 2006.

It was earlier this year when Shriver said “Hasta la vista, baby” when she found out he’d been having a long-time affair with their live in housekeeper and had a son with her.
