It was a tragic afternoon in Wyoming County on Wednesday as a man was found dead following an ATV accident.

According to the reports, Wyoming County got a call about a person trapped under an ATV near the Miller Road railroad crossing in Warsaw. When officers arrived, they found the body of 24-year-old Gregory Kersch. Investigators believe Kersch was on Miller Road when he hit a signal light post and was ejected.

It was just last week that a man was killed in an accident in Genesee County. In that accident, 43-year-old Thomas Butler was driving the ATV on Bliss Road in Oakfield Saturday when the vehicle hit a rock wall and flipped several times.

The spring and summer months see the most ATV activity. If you are planning to ride, make sure you have a helmet and ride in an area you are familiar with. It is also important to ride in conditions that are suitable to your skill level and maintain a safe speed. ATV's are also made for off-road use. I hate to sound like a preacher, but when I see people riding fast on a road on an ATV, I cringe. These machines are not made or intended to be ridden on surfaces like asphalt or concrete. Steering and handling is difficult to maintain on such terrain.
