Back to Back Wins for the Buffalo Sabres
If you like lots of offense, this was not the game for you. But if you enjoy watching the Buffalo Sabres win a game you were in the right place. Benoit Pouliot scored the only goal of the game and Robin Lehner and the Buffalo defense made it hold up in the Sabres 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night at KeyBank Center.
Pouliot scored midway thru the second period on a wrap around when he tried to stick the puck in the net but it bounced off goaltender Jimmy Howard and in. Meanwhile at the other end of the ice Lehner made 32 saves to pick up the shut out and his first win of the season. At the same time it was Detroit's fifth straight loss.
After the game Lehner said they stuck to the game plan, playing smart hockey. And at the end when the Red Wings pulled their goaltender they were always in position to shove the puck down to the other end of the ice and force the Wings to go 200 feet to recover it.
So after four tries the Sabres finally have a victory on home ice. Together with Saturday's win in Boston the Sabres now have back to back wins.
The Sabres play in Columbus against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday night.
