Ban on Travel To Canada Likely To Extend Through July
It may be a while longer before you can make a quick trip across the border.
The US/Canada border has been closed since March in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. The existing ban is set to expire June 21, but experts predict the ban will be renewed, and travel between the two countries will remain suspended through July.
Reuters reports, “It’s going to be a clean rollover” on June 21, said a U.S. source who requested anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation. “We will want to look at it again in July.”
There has been no official confirmation about extending the ban just yet.
According to Reuters, coronavirus infections are down in many of Canada's provinces, but high numbers in larger cities like Toronto and Montreal are still cause for concern.
"Canada reported 7,835 deaths, and 96,244 coronavirus cases on June 9," according to Reuters.
The travel ban does not affect trade between the United States and Canada.
