It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero served our country proudly in the United States Navy.   It’s Barbara Erdt!

Barbara is from Buffalo and she joined the Navy and went to bootcamp in July of 1988. She was stationed in Kings Bay Georgia on the USS Canopus from ‘88 – ‘94 as a hull technician.  From there she was assigned to the USS Eisenhower, an aircraft carrier.  She was part of the first group of women assigned to that ship as ship's company to implement females on a combat ship!

The Navy has taken her all over the world including St.Thomas, Nova Scotia, Puerto Rico, and the Mediterranean Sea heading through the Suez Canal, Italy, France, Turkey, Israel, Austria, and Greece! After completing active duty with  recruiting duty in 2001 she enlisted in the reserves until 2006 where she was assigned to the Seabee unit. She ended up retiring as a steelworker first class.

We want to say thank you to Barbara Erdt from our United States Navy for her nearly 20 years of service.  This week, we are proud to name her our Hometown Hero of the week!
