A huge turnout for the annual Pizza Fest at Gateway Harbor Park in North Tonawanda Wednesday night.  From 5 to 10 pm pizza fans got to sample some of the best offerings of area pizza shops, but one of the surprise entries wasn't a pizza shop at all.

Smoke on the Water BBQ offered what they titled Carnivore Pizza.  It includes beef brisket, pulled pork, Applewood bacon, mozzarella, green onion and house-made bleu cheese.  If you're tired of the typical cheese and pepperoni, this is the pizza for you.

That was one of my favorites along with the Great Foodini Truck,  The Great Foodini had several pizza offerings on a thin, crispy crust.

On the downside, the lines were long and slow and there weren't very many pizza places represented.  Some of the pizza samples I got were cold and one of the workers at the Submasters tent tried to give me a slice of cheese and pepperoni with no evidence of any pepperoni on it.

One of the pleasant surprises was Tops deli on Niagara Street offering pizza slices and sub sandwiches.  Every item they presented looked very appetizing.
