Corn mazes could be one of the greatest pastimes that exist. So where do you find them in Western New York?

Mazes go back centuries. As far back as the 17th century, people built mazes as games or entertainment. One of the popular kinds back then was garden mazes for very rich people who could afford to use that kind of land to create one.

When it comes to corn mazes, they're much newer. According to MaizeAdventure.com, one of the first known corn mazes was created in the early 90s by someone named Earl Beal, who owned a farm in Annville, Pennsylvania. His father created mazes for an amusement park called Knoebels Amusement Resort. Beal wanted to recreate a much larger version on his farm, so he used his corn fields.

When was the last time you walked through a corn maze? Has it been a while since you've done a corn maze? If so, you should grab the kids up and head out to one. It's a perfect chance to get outside to enjoy the weather and burn up a little energy. Depending on how good you are at them, you might actually hit your step goal by the time you're done, too. They can be more challenging than they look!

We did one last October and actually raced each other to see who could get out first. Evidently, it doesn't count if you go in part of the way and then just trace your steps back to the entrance when no one is looking. There's actually an entrance and an exit!
