It's almost blueberry season in Western New York. If you're looking for some great places to pick your own, we've got you covered.

When is blueberry season in Western New York?

We have so many great places for picking fruits and vegetables in Western New York that the seasons tend to get confusing. For blueberries, the best time to pick can be anywhere from mid-July through August. So, as I write this, we are creeping up on the perfect time to go. But a good rule of thumb is to always call the farm that you're planning on going to before you plan your trip. They will be able to give you the best time to come or be able to warn you if their season is already over.

Ways to use blueberries after you've picked them

Blueberries are one of those fruits that you can use for a ton of different things. My favorite way to eat them is in pancakes. That sweet pop of flavor with a pancake that is drenched in butter and syrup is a perfect way to start a day. They're great in pies, of course, too. Some people freeze them and put them in their wine or their beer to keep it cold without watering down their drink. You can put them in your yogurt in the morning or in a fruit salad. Make jelly out of it, bake it in a muffin, or mix them in your smoothie. There are thousands of ways that they can be used.

Or, just eat them out of your hand. Just be careful. They'll leave a stain.
