Breathe Easy Bills Fans – Allen Signed His Extension With The Bills
Most Bills fans weren't too worried. Bills GM Branon Beane said that they would get a deal done...and the did. Allen signs 6 year extension with the Bills.
The deal is good through 2028.
The Buffalo Bills made the announcement today but there isn't any mention of how much it is going to cost them. It simply says that they got a deal done for 6 years. Adam Schefter is saying it's an average of $43 million per year.
There wasn't much question about what each side wanted. Allen said he would love to play his entire career in Buffalo. And after the year that he had last year, of course, the Bills are hoping that he does too.
The question was which of the quarterbacks from the 2018 would get their deal done first. It seemed as if Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Allen were all waiting for the other to sign first. It wouldn't have been unheard of either. Often they like to wait to see what their market is.
It's hard to argue that Allen is without the best quarterback to put on a Bills uniform since Jim Kelly in the 90s. He broke just about every record that stood in the Bills franchise last year. He broke single-season franchise records for touchdown passes (37), completions (396), completion percentage (69.2), 300-yard games (8), passing yards (4,544) and total touchdowns (46) and he finished runner-up to Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers for league MVP honors.
We will get more info as the days come, but for now we can rest knowing that heading into training camp, we have our QB1 signed for a long term deal to stay in Buffalo.
