Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman Is Running For Governor
It's hard to believe, but the 2025 New York local and county-level elections were just about a month ago. All over the state, we saw some elected offices change hands. Some things we expected, while others took people all over the Empire State by surprise.
Now that we've gotten past that, there are people all over New York looking forward to November 2026, when we may see a whole lot more change in the state and in our country.
Just a couple of weeks after a New York Congresswoman threw her name in the hat, seeking the state's top job, another high-level Republican is raising his hand and wants to lead New York State.
Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County Executive, Is Running For Governor
When the next election comes around next year on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, we're going to have at least 4 big names in New York politics seeking to take control of the Empire State. Bruce Blakeman, the Executive in Nassau County, announced he was running for Governor last week, and he says he has what it takes to lead New York into the future.
Born in Valley Stream, New York, Blakeman was a member of the Nassau County Legislature and the Town of Hempstead Council before being elected to lead the county in 2022. With a law degree from California Western School of Law, Blakeman has been part of some major deals in downstate New York, including finding a new home for Canon, USA, in the Empire State.

Blakeman joins what looks to be a crowded field running for the Governorship in 2026, and he is poised to go against Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Both Blakeman and & Stefanik have received endorsements from President Trump in the past, so New York Republicans will have to make a tough choice when the primary election comes along in 2026.
