The upcoming season for the Buffalo Bills is going to sound a little different than before.

John Murphy has been the play-by-play announcer for over 20 years. He was first hired to be the play-by-play announcer back in 2003, which means he has been the voice of the Bills for an entire generation of Bills fans.

His future in sports radio has been up in the air after he suffered a stroke at the beginning of 2023. Murphy described the details of the stroke and how his recovery went in a book called, “If These Walls Could Talk: Stories from the Buffalo Bills Sideline, Locker Room, and Press Box.”

Earlier this month, we found out that John Murphy would be retiring as the radio voice of the Buffalo Bills as he continues to recover. He worked in the broadcast industry for over three decades, and he spent over 20 years with the Bills.

Murphy has left some big shoes to fill, but they are looking for that next person to step into that announcer role.

The radio company that is affiliated with the Buffalo Bills is looking for their next Buffalo Bills Play-By-Play Radio Announcer. And who knows…maybe it will be a woman?

Just this month, the MLB celebrated a milestone: the first game was played with female play-by-play announcers for both teams. Julia Morales from the Houston Astros and Jenny Cavnar from the Oakland Athletics were the first set of female broadcasters to serve as play-by-play television announcers during the same regular-season game, according to Houston Public Media.

If the MLB can do it, why not the NFL?

Anyone who is interested in the position is encouraged to apply, and you can find that job listing here.

It’ll be difficult to find someone who has as much enthusiasm and Buffalo pride as Murph, but someone is going to be chosen to fill his shoes for the upcoming season. Why not you?
