The dog days of summer continue for what seems to be one of the warmest seasons we've seen in a while in Western New York. The hot temperatures have forced many around the Buffalo area to seek refuge at beaches, public pools, and cooling centers all over the region.

However, after a series of events at one Buffalo pool, folks just outside of Buffalo's central business district who want to take a dip in the water will have to find a new place to cool off, as the pool has been closed for the season.

The city's JFK Recreation Center pool is now shut down after a series of violent events has made many of the staffers feel too unsafe to come to work.

According to WIVB-TV, the pool was finally closed after a young lifeguard was threatened and assaulted by an adult at the facility.

In addition to these unfortunate events at JFK, several other pools and centers have been broken into and vandalized.

There are several other public pools and splash pads that are open around Buffalo, and officials have said they plan for them to remain open through Labor Day.

City officials also hope to be able to reopen the JFK Recreation Center in the next few weeks, as the center is a hub of positive activity for Buffalo's Willert Park and Emslie neighborhoods, but that will remain to be seen.
