Why Buffalo Will Soon Host This Major NFL Event
The Buffalo community has been the bud of jokes for a long time. The reasons are well-known to us.
The lake effect snowstorms and the failure of the two major professional sports teams: the Bills and Sabres.
The fact people keep moving out of Western New York is another reason for that, but if you have paid attention to the Buffalo community and the prospects of the Bills and Sabres the last several years, then you know those prospects are turning good.
There's new development in Western New York and the Bills are one of the best teams in the NFL. They're also getting a brand new, open-air stadium in Orchard Park by 2026. Construction has just begun and will conclude in 2026.
On Monday, the NFL announced that Green Bay will be the host for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The news came as a surprise to many NFL fans, since Green Bay is the smallest market in the entire league and there's talk of how they will accommodate the influx of people, along with the standard "what's there to do there?"...which we get a lot of in Buffalo.
The NFL tweeted this out, which indicates their desire to get to as many NFL cities as possible: NFL Draft, Super Bowl, etc.
The NFL is absolutely coming to Buffalo for the NFL Draft; and soon.
The Super Bowl will likely never happen, since the market can't accommodate the number of new people visiting the city...but since Green Bay got a draft awarded to them, along with a new Bills stadium on the way, Buffalo will absolutely get a draft soon.
My guess is that will be in 2027 or 2028. The reasoning is because 1) the new stadium won't quite be ready by April of 2026 and 2) the league likely goes back to a bigger market in 2026; after Green Bay.
Buffalo will get an NFL Draft soon.
