The NHL Trading Deadline was at 3 pm on Monday and many fans and analysts expected the Buffalo Sabres to make a few moves with their pending unrestricted free agents.

The Sabres did trade defenseman Robert Hagg to the Florida Panthers for a 6th round draft pick on Sunday, which adds veteran depth to the Panthers, who might be the best team in the NHL.

However, general manager Kevyn Adams did not make any other trades before the deadline at 3 pm today, despite having eight pending UFA’s.

The players who were the likeliest to be traded were defenseman Colin Miller, defenseman Mark Pysyk, forward Vinnie Hinostroza and goaltender Craig Anderson.

Adams said this afternoon in his press conference that things didn’t come together for other trades, although he had many conversations about the above mentioned players.

Adams did say that they were involved in a three-team trade conversation with two other teams that did fall through. The Sabres would have been the “broker” in that trade.

Many Sabres fans were not happy that the team did not make any trades on Monday. The thinking is the Sabres could (likely) will lose those players for nothing this summer and even if it was low-round draft picks, they could have gotten something for them and also gave room for younger players.

On one hand, you never want to give up players for less than what you feel their true value is, but at the same time it’s best to get any assets in here for those players.

We’ll have to see what Kevyn Adams does this off-season with the roster. Hopefully, JJ Peterka and Jack Quinn will be full-time NHL players next season.
