Two colleges here in Western New York have been rated very highly for value locally and excellence nationally.

If you plan to stay in Western New York for your post high school education, it looks as though you are in incredibly capable hands.  Both the University at Buffalo (UB) and Canisius College have been rated highly.

Canisius has been praised for its' value.  According to WKBW, Canisius was named the 'Best Value School' in New York state by U.S. News & World Report.

“Accessibility and affordability have been part of the Canisius mission for nearly 150 years.  These latest rankings reinforce that commitment and speak to the value of our faculty, staff, students, alumni and benefactors, all of whom help support the exceptional academic experiences our students receive in and beyond the classroom.” -  President John J. Hurley.

UB made that same list.  Nationally, they ranked 88th but came in on a number of different lists.  According to WIVB, they were:

  • Best Value – 100
  • Top Performers on Social Mobility – 62
  • Best Colleges for Veterans – 56
  • National Universities with a Proportion of International Students – 10
  • Top Undergraduate Computer Science Programs – 61
  • Undergraduate Engineering Programs – 66

This is the 7th year in a row that UB has made it into the Top 50 Public Universities, ranking at number 34 this time around.

The study came from data from the U.S. Department of Education and an assessment of more than 1,900 four-year schools across the country.  Regardless of which school you choose, you will be in good hands.

“We’re very pleased UB has again been recognized as one of the nation’s top public universities. From the students’ perspective, this means that at UB they have the opportunity to learn from faculty who are leading scholars in their fields and they can participate in research projects that have the potential to change people’s lives,”  - UB Provost A. Scott Weber
