This week’s Hometown Hero is 25 year old First Lieutenant Catherine Cline from Grand Island.  The nomination came from Catherine’s brother Chris who was anxiously waiting for a little brother when he found out his mom was pregnant.  He wasn't expecting what he got....

In his nomination he wrote,

Having 2 sisters already, I was hoping for the chance to finally get a little brother with mom’s final pregnancy. After hearing the news that in fact my youngest sibling was going to be another sister…I was devastated! From that day forward, I have always referred to her as my "baby brother" But, over the years I became very fond of her. She decided that she needed to serve her country, And pursued it with everything she had. Now having been in enlisted for 5+ years, she is now going to deploy to Afghanistan for 400 days. I couldn't think of a higher level of respect to have, then for someone who would sacrifice themselves for the better of mankind. And as it turns out…guess the "jokes" on me. Because of 3 girls and 1 boy…the youngest girl joins the military!

First Lieutenant Cline deploys for Afghanistan next month. We wish her the best of luck overseas and pray for your safe return.  Thank you so much for your service and your bravery.  We share the same respect that your brother has.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them right here on WYRK.com, but we'll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
