I think it's very cool that there are businesses in Western New York like Cellino Plumbing & HVAC who are committed to supporting nonprofits in the community.

In fact, Cellino has made giving back a regular commitment. Every month, Cellino Plumbing & HVAC gives $500 to one deserving Western New York non-profit. After gathering submissions and having willing Western New Yorkers vote on the finalists, one organization is highlighted and selected to receive support from Cellino Plumbing & HVAC and, of course, from WYRK.

July's winner is White Whiskers Senior Dog Sanctuary, which received its 501(c)3 nonprofit status around Christmas and is still working on launching. Their main goals right now are to raise money and enhance their public engagement and support, so winning Cellino's monthly prize helped on both accounts.

President and founder Polla Milligan envisions White Whiskers as a farmhouse-style setting where older dogs who might struggle to get adopted at traditional animal shelters because of their age or health issues can live comfortably. She also wants to open the doors to people who can benefit from therapeutic interaction with the animals and those who might need to temporarily surrender their animals because of a surgery or other medical issue.
