There is a change that may be coming to your school and many others across New York State as millions of dollars has been set aside.

The summer is not over just yet, however, when kids go back to school this fall there may be a new type of bus that picks them up. Districts across New York State are making the switch from gas powered transportation to vehicles with zero emissions.

The $200 million is part of the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. The funds will assist districts with buying electric buses as well as covering the costs associated with charging infrastructure.

IN a post on "X". the President of NYSERDA also applauded the new buses. Doreen Harris says that: "With an additional $200M Bond Act funding, we’re supporting more NY schools w/ options for funding buses, chargers, & electrification plans.
@NYSERDA & NY School Bus Incentive Program provides tools to transition to clean, electric bus fleets for students".

While some are not completely sold on the idea/safety of electric school buses, it is another step forward in New York State's plan to become less dependent on fossil fuels and more reliant on green energy.

NYSERDA also went on to mention that: "Since the program launch, NYSERDA has worked with schools, New York State agencies, legislators, communities, manufacturers, bus dealers and utilities to raise awareness on the Bond Act funding available to school districts and to help more communities understand the health and climate benefits that electric buses provide".
