Crazy Traffic Expected In Hamburg and Orchard Park This Weekend: Avoid These Roads
I know there's nothing worse than getting caught up in heavy traffic and you had no idea that the congestion would even be there. August is always a special time to be in Western New York since many events are going on in the area and that is definitely the case this weekend.
If you haven't heard, the Erie County Fair has officially kicked off at the Hamburg Fairgrounds and it's a wonderful site to get the fair back after not happening in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The fair is always super packed on weekends and that makes sense since many people still have to work on weekdays.
However, this Saturday will also feature a huge event in the southtowns: the Billy Joel concert at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Highmark Stadium isn't too far away from the Hamburg Fairgrounds and roads such as Abbott, Big Treet, Clark, and Southwestern are hugely popular for both fairgoers and those attending events at Highmark Stadium.
Safe to say, if you're going to either event on Saturday, it's best to just avoid that entire area after 3 pm.
WIVB is reporting that the section of Abbott Road in front of the stadium will close to north and southbound traffic at 3 pm, just like it would for a Bills game.
Those attending the Erie County Fair are asked to take alternate routes and to avoid Abbott near the stadium.
Big Tree Road will NOT be closed to westbound traffic after the concert ends, but as you can expect, drivers are being advised there will be very heavy delays because of the show and the fair.
I know Saturday evening is a very popular time to attend the Erie County Fair (maybe the most popular), but definitely do not go anywhere near the stadium on Saturday after 3 unless you're going to see Billy Joel.
I remember when the Rolling Stones played at the stadium in 2015 but I believe that was in July. With a prime fair day taking place at the same time, the traffic delays will likely be severe in nature.
