New measures are in effect to try and curb the drug problem here in Western New York and the rest of the state. All prescriptions written in New York must now be transmitted electronically from the doctor to the pharmacy and so far over 60,000 are already signed up to e-prescribe.

As of the end of March, prescriptions will no longer be handwritten or called in to the pharmacy. Patients who still look for the best prices on medication can do so, but must consult their doctor before prescriptions are electronically sent over to the pharmacy.
