As America celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, it’s a fitting time to recognize the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom.

Although Independence Day was celebrated on July 4, this milestone year has been dedicated to honoring our nation’s history and the brave Americans who have defended it for the past 250 years. While our country continues to face challenges, I still believe the United States is the greatest nation in the world because of the sacrifices made by those who have served in our military.

Veterans and Active Military Are Being Targeted

According to information recently shared by New York State, scammers are increasingly targeting active-duty military members and veterans.

These scams often involve fake employment opportunities, fraudulent military discounts, impersonation schemes, financial offers, and other tactics designed to steal personal information or money. State officials encourage military families and veterans to learn how to recognize these scams and take advantage of the educational resources available to help protect themselves.

"The scams most frequently reported by military members, veterans and their families include imposter scams, online shopping scams and scams involving business and job opportunities".

Military members have earned the respect of every American, and they should never have to worry about becoming victims of criminals looking to exploit their service.

My appreciation for our military is deeply personal. My brother proudly served as a United States Marine, and I still vividly remember the day he left for boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. It’s a memory that has stayed with me for years.

I am incredibly grateful not only for his service but for every man and woman who has worn the uniform to defend our country. The same gratitude extends to our first responders, who continue to protect our communities every day.
