I have been eating a ton of salad lately.  I love it.  Romaine is really my lettuce of choice.  So obviously when I saw that you could re-grow lettuce from the ends, I had to try it.

It doesn't seem like that big of a discovery but I was surprised at how fast it begins to grow back.  Kind of like how starfish will regrow lost limbs, all those ends of lettuce that you've been throwing out could be giving you more food!

Since I recorded that video 4 days ago, the newest piece of lettuce has grown about a half inch.  One thing that I've noticed about the original one that I started is that it's growing quickly, but obviously not as tight as romaine normally comes up.  It's a little leafier than a normal heart of romaine would be that you'd get from the store.

Roots are beginning to grow out of the original one too.  So I'm curious if I should actually plant it to see what happens then.

I also haven't tasted it.  I'm not sure if it's going to be the same.  But hey...I was going to throw it out anyway right?

Have you ever tried this?  How did it work for you?
