New York State Bans Jello Shots at Bars & Restaurants
Jello shots at bars are becoming a thing of the past, but mostly because the New York State liquor authority has them banned and for one certain reason.
New York State does not want you to be drinking drinks that are PRE MIXED before you see them. The only real exception is something similar to the margarita machines you see at bars or restaurants via the New York State Liquor Authority.
The General Rule: You cannot "marry" (mix different batches of) liquor or wine. It must remain in the original manufacturer's container until it is poured for a customer
The Exception: Bars and restaurants can use dispensing machines (capacity of at least a gallon) that continually mix drinks, provided they are hooked up to a secure pressurized mixing system
You don't hear this very often: New York State is ELIMINATING these criteria when it comes to a bar or a restaurant applying for a liquor license.
New York State bars and restaurants no longer have to tell New York State if there is going to be any dancing at the bar or restaurant. It seems like such an old, weird and outdated thing and that is why Governor Hochul decided that they can remove or omit the question on the New York State SLA application. Governor Hochul said:
New York’s hospitality industry is unmatched, and our restaurants, bars and nightlife are a big part of what makes our communities so vibrant. By eliminating this antiquated restriction on dancing, we’re making it easier for businesses to succeed and for New Yorkers and visitors alike to experience the energy and excitement that define our state."
New York State is also doing something 'cool' (or at least accommodating). If you are trying to have a public party or festival and sell alcohol at for a World Cup watch party--you are able to get a temporary permit specially for the World Cup through New York State and you just have to apply here.
