East Aurora-based toymaker Fisher Price is a finalist in four different categories for the Toy Association’s 2021 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards.

According to a press release from Mattel -- the parent company of Fisher Price -- they're up for four awards:

  • Fisher-Price® #ThankYouHeroes Line – Action Figure of the Year
  • Fisher-Price® Imaginext® DC Super Friends™ Super Surround™ Batcave™ – Preschool Toy of the Year
  • Fisher-Price™ Imaginext® Pop-Up Gotham City™ Playset – Playset of the Year
  • Fisher-Price® Laugh & Learn® Grow-the-Fun Garden to Kitchen™ playset – Infant/Toddler Toy of the Year

The #ThankYouHeroes Line debuted in late April of this year, at the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, aimed at honoring essential workers. The line includes a selection of doctors, nurses, EMTs and delivery drivers. The company also released a “special five-character Little People set comprised of a doctor, nurse, EMT, delivery driver and grocery store worker.”

We got a chance to see the Imaginext® DC Super Friends™ Super Surround™ Batcave™ in person when it was on display at the 2020 Toy Fair. It's about the size of your average toddler, and also folds up for easy storage (as a mom, I always want to know how a toy will be stored in my home first!!). Plus, the lights and sounds are pretty cool. It's not surprising it's up for the Preschool Toy of the Year Award.
