What the heck.

Have you tried going to get all of your Easter supplies yet for your baskets? If not, you're going to be surprised by the massive increase in prices of some things. This isn't probably a surprise if you think about everything that has gone up in price over the course of the past year, but chocolate has gone WAY up as well.

There is a shortage of:

  • milk
  • sugar
  • cocoa
  • there is even a shortage of aluminum used to make wrappers

Here are some of the price jumps of candy and chocolate according to the New York Post:

popular confections such as Hershey’s bars and Kit Kats have risen from 99 cents each to $1.25 each (26%); the price of jelly beans has grown from $3.99 to $4.99 per pound (25%); and a medium-sized 6-ounce chocolate bunny has risen from $4.99 to $5.99 (20%).

We have some friends who decided that they are going to try and make their own chocolates this year. Even though the ingredients have gone up in prices as well, at the end of the day it is saving them a whole heck of a lot of money for them to fill the Easter basket for their 4 kids. Hey, even if you have never tried it before, you have to start and learn somewhere!

What else do you put in your Easter baskets? Do you put anything creative besides small gifts and chocolate?
