Erie County Sheriffs Post Warning To Drivers This Week

Everyone seems to be on a new schedule this week, and as we get used to getting back into the swing of things, please do not forget to follow this driving rule. 

School is back in session throughout all of Western New York, and to keep our kids safe, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning for all drivers this week. 

“It is not an option drivers, you see these, you must stop,” the post read. 

Drivers who recklessly attempt to pass a school bus that is stopped for the purpose of picking up or dropping off passengers in New York state, with accompanying red flashing lights, can lead to the following consequences:

• The first conviction could lead to a fine of $250-$400 and/or up to 30 days in jail. 
• The second conviction could lead to a fine of $600-$750.
• A third conviction could lead to a $750-$1000 fine. 
• 5 points on your license.

Most police stations in the area posted some kind of warning for drivers as a reminder to not pass a stopped school bus. 

“Remember that for every stopped school bus you drive past an angel loses its wings.”
