There is a famous mountain in New York State that has temporarily closed this week.

The spring is supposed to be here but in parts of New York, there are still signs that Old Man Winter is not done giving us a dose of the Arctic just yet.

From Buffalo, to Oswego, the forecast is calling for some lake effect snow to drop a few inches over higher terrain before the end of the week and before more average temperatures return.

New York's Most Famous Mountain

If you were to ask MOST people, they would probably tell you that the most famous and popular mountain in the Adirondacks in New York is likely Whiteface Mountain. It is a beautiful mountain with an incredible view at the peak and a great place for hiking, sight seeing, skiing and fun!

But according to a post on the Whiteface Mountain website, it will be closed for a few days.

"We’re not saying goodbye to winter just yet; we’re just taking a short break to preserve snowpack. Whiteface will be closed from Monday, 4/7 to Thursday, 4/10, but we’ll be back in action and open Friday, 4/11 through Sunday, 4/13 (weather and conditions permitting)".

Great For Family Getaways

Our family LOVES to visit Whiteface. In fact, our four kids always bring up the memories that we have made on our adventures to and up the mountain. We did a road trip this past August and the day we visited it was actually very foggy and cold at the peak. The kids thought we were in a cloud! Even though we didn't get to see the breathtaking view that Whiteface offers that day, we still loved every second at the peak.

We are blessed to live in a state with such natural beauty and hopefully you can get a chance to enjoy it and make some memories this year with your kids!
