Five area post offices are looking to hire carriers.

The United States Postal Service hiring new mail carriers in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, Depew and Lockport.

WGRZ reports:

The USPS is hiring City Carrier Assistants, which are mail carriers who deliver mail on foot or by vehicle.

 

The job pays $17.29 an hour, and workers are immediately able to get health benefits with the postal premium contribution.

Many people have experienced employment disruptions during the pandemic, either due to job loss or a desire to change careers.

According to WGRZ, the post office says the open CCA positions can lead to a career position.

People who are interested in applying have until the end of March to submit an application.

Requirements for the job include having to be either 18 years old, or older -- or 16 years old with a high school diploma.

The candidate must pass a criminal background check, drug screening and medical assessment.

As well, people who are employed by the United State Postal Service must be either a United States citizen, permanent resident, or citizen of American Samoa or other U.S. territory.
