As we end the week here in the Buffalo, New York area and across the state, there is a somber tone as we pay tribute to a first responder.

The tribute will be a solemn reminder of the dangers that are involved in work zones along roadways.

Flags will be lowered in New York State for the next two days in honor of DOT Highway Maintenance Supervisor Robert Bornt.

As of Friday morning, the flags will be at half staff.

The summer will be here, officially, in just a couple more weeks and as we drive around it is vital that we pay attention and follow all of the directions, laws and roadside alerts that are posted. We have entered the busy road trip season and the busy construction season as well.

Not only is it important to pay attention in a work zone area, it is also necessary to pay attention to the New York State "move over" law. No matter the vehicle that you see stopped on the side of the road, here in New York State you are required to move over and slow down as you pass by.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends and co-workers of Robert Bornt and we thank him for his dedication to the community as well.
