Flyover Salute To Honor COVID-19 Heroes in Southern Tier This Weekend
There's something special about seeing a flyover salute, and you'll get another chance to see one over the Southern Tier on Saturday.
The positive feedback after “Operation Thanks From Above, Western New York” paved the way for the National Warplane Museum to do it again.
According to a post on the National Warplane Museum - Geneseo Airshow Facebook page, the expected take-off time is 10 a.m., this Saturday, June 6.
The flyover will honor Southern Tier first responders, medical personnel and essential workers. According to the post, a map and flight path will be coming.
"The NWM’s very own Douglas C-47, affectionately named “Whiskey 7” will take to the skies, accompanied by one other aircraft, a P-51 Mustang named "Mad Max.” The Douglas C-47 is a WWII veteran and was the lead aircraft in the second wave of the D-Day invasion on June 6th, 1944 over Ste. Mere Eglise, Normandy." -National Warplane Museum - Geneseo Airshow
The group says the values associated with the aircraft are bravery, sacrifice, honor, and hope, "so it is only fitting that it will lead the way in reminding our local heroes how appreciated they are."
