This summer there will be no excuse for them not to get healthy. As a parent of a 16-year-old, I know firsthand how hard it is at times to get them out and about.
My son Avry who plays soccer is an active kid, but sometimes he prefers to spend time playing games on his computer for hours at a time. When school is in session keeping kids busy and active isn't that big of an issue, but during the summertime, it is a bit different.
When school is out for summer, kids have more time on their hands, and with parents off, at their jobs, some kids might not be motivated to get out and about to stay active.
This summer for the third straight year, Planet Fitness is offering area high schoolers a chance to work out for free starting on May 16th through August 31st.
The High School Summer Pass is open to teens aged 14 through 19. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, less than 15 percent of teens met the 60-minute daily physical activity recommendation during the pandemic in 2020 even though 90% of teens wanted to stay healthy.
If you don't have a Planet Fitness near you, here are some exercises that your teen can do at home for free to stay healthy this Summer.
Have your teen do each of these exercises 10 times once per day to stay healthy and have them mix in a walk, jog, or bike ride around the neighborhood.
1. Burpees
2. Air Squat
3. Plank
4. Dips
5. Elevated Pike Pushups
You can see how to do each of these exercises HERE.
