Freezing Temperatures Force Cold Weather Alert In Western New York
It will be another COLD night across Western New York, as another round of arctic weather will move across the 716.
Wind Chills could drop as low as -24 in parts of Western New York, and that has caused the National Weather Service in Buffalo to issue a Cold Weather Advisory for all of Western New York.
Cold Weather Advisory In Western New York
The National Weather Service in Buffalo is predicting that wind chills across Western New York will drop to well below zero tonight and into Friday morning. The Cold Weather Advisory will start at 7 pm tonight and last until 10 am on Friday.
Bitterly cold wind chills as low as 24 below zero will cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
The cold weather is expected to last through the weekend, with high temperatures expected to reach only into the upper teens and low 20s by Sunday.
There will be a little bit of a warmup next week, with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-20s for the first week of February. Snow is also expected to return to Western New York next week as well.
Morning Commute Impacted By Weather
Your drive to work or school will be impacted by the weather. We have some heavy scattered snow showers dropping some fresh snow on local roads. Plows have been out, but due to the cold weather, salt is not as effective, and many roads, especially secondary roads, are snow-covered.
Expected it to take a little bit longer to get where you are going today, around the 716.
