Here’s The True Story Of The Famous ‘Kissing Sailor’ Photo [VIDEO]

The "Kissing Sailor" is one of the most -- if not THE MOST -- iconic kisses to come out of the WWII era.

Rumors swirled around not too long ago that the sailor in the photo, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on V-J Day in Times Square, had passed. However, those rumors are false. The real sailor in this legendary photo is still alive and living New Haven, Conn. with his wife -- and is actually linked to the Buffalo area.

George Mendonça was a first class quartermaster on the USS The Sullivans, which is now docked at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park at Canalside. As mentioned before, the identity of this famous sailor has been much disputed, but an in-depth, scientific analysis supports that the guy is in fact Mendonça.
