I think we all thought the same thing when we woke up to snow this morning, and snow that actually stuck to the ground.  Today Friday, April 6th we had a couple inches on the ground and the temperature on hitting 30 or so.  What happened to spring?

It got me doing a little research on weather history in Buffalo and checking to see when last it snowed in the month of April.  It has and here is when according the the National Weather Service.

1975

Over 12 inches of snow fell at the Buffalo Airport between the 3rd and 5th of April. Temperatures averaged between 15 and 20 degrees below normal. It was almost blizzard like conditions and the New York State Thruway had to close because of the weather.

1982

Temperatures stayed below freezing for the entire period from the 4th through the 6th.

1990-  A record snowfall of nearly 6 inches of snow was recorded at the Buffalo-Niagara Airport!

2004

Snow showers recorded on April 4th and by the end of April 5th Buffalo had 12 inches of snow on the ground.

So I guess today's small amount of snow could be worse. Happy snow day!
