Massive Honor For EMS In Western New York
There is no way we could put the gratitude that we have for our emergency personnel in to words. The work that the brave men and women of the Western New York EMS crews do every single day is something special and will be recognized this week as a National honor is coming to town.
When you were a kid, there is a good chance that you dreamed of being a hero like a nurse or doctor, firefighter, paramedic or police officer. My brother was a firefighter when I was growing up and I always admired him for that!
According to an email that was sent to me this past weekend, there is a special memorial service and honor that will be in Western New York Monday and Tuesday.
The National EMS Memorial Moving Honors is coming to WNY for the first time ever this year . Moving honors makes stops all over the country and this year started in riverside California. Last year, Rebecca Eleczko from the Millgrove FD was honored after passing away from COVID in Jan of 2021. This year, James Sauer from Mercy Flight will be honored.
"We expect their arrival somewhere between 430 and 5 o'clock. There is a small group of us meeting them at the Angola service area and after we meet up with them we will be getting off at the Camp Road exit where a LARGE contingent of emergency vehicles will be give a police escort (state police , sheriffs, hamburg , orchard Park and lancaster police department) as well as mercy flight will lead them down Southwestern Blvd/Transit Rd to Russell's Grand Hotel".
The public is asked to show their support as well.
"We are asking the public to line the streets to welcome them to Buffalo and show them some "Buffalo love".
There will be a special ceremony on Tuesday morning at Russell's Patriots and Heroes Park at 10 after which they will depart for Syracuse, NY.
We’ve had 2 EMS Line of Duty Deaths here in WNY in last 2 years. Beckie Eleczko from Millgrove FD and Jim Sauer Mercy Flight pilot. This is the reason for them to make Buffalo one of their cross country stops enroute to the National EMS Memorial Services in Arlington VA.
