When I was in high school, I remember a couple of cheerleaders who got injured after falls.  One broke her collarbone, one an arm.  Recently an NBA cheerleader fell from a lift at an Orlando Magic game.  Now it's sparking debate that it may be too dangerous of a sport.

Is it worth the danger?  Do they actually get a crowd pumped anymore?  I can't remember the last time that there was a press conference after a game where they asked one of the players what went wrong and their response was "well, the cheerleaders didn't really get the crowd into it as much as we hoped."

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not trying to discredit cheerleading as a sport.  Cheerleaders are without a doubt athletes.  But isn't there a safer environment for those acrobatics than on a hardwood floor?  Its as if there are two sports occurring simultaneously but only one of them is in the right venue.
