Most of you that know me know that I hate to shop.  When I do take the time to go to a store to shop I know exactly what I am after and try to be in and out of the store as quickly as I can. This goes for grocery, department, music, book (yes every once in awhile I will go get a book) and even outdoor stores!Today I made the trip to get some drapes/curtains.  I measured out the windows and decided to get just a neutral color for now and get more decorative later on.  Easy right?  I figured I would just walk in with my measurements and pick out some plain drapes.  Turns out, they don't sell drapes anymore.  They do have a "window treatment" section.  When did shopping for something to block the sunlight out become politically correct? Window treatments to me sounds like something you do when there is a crack in the window!

So as I made my way to the window treatment area I found a sea of fabrics, colors, sizes and styles.  Did you know they even have some sort of "eco-friendly" curtain??  I looked through THREE aisles full before I found just a basic looking treatment.   I finally found the style/color but the sizes were a whole other issue.  Some come as a tier set.  Some are window SCARFS!! (Do we have a problem with windows catching cold?? ) Some are a valance.  Holy crap!  I started to doubt if I would ever find the one I was looking for.  Turns out the size windows I have are irregular. (ofcourse) The  treatments I need would have to be treated to a day at the seamstress!

Fed up, I grabbed a basic tan drape that is too long and will pile up on the floor below,  but thankfully was on sale.  Now I have window treatments that double as floor jackets!

Have we gotten out of hand with the amount of selection?  What ever happened to the phrase "keep it simple?"
