The snowstorm that is wreaking havoc all over the country is causing more issues for Buffalo and Western New York as blizzard conditions continue to ravage the area.

There remain more than 30,000 people without power in Western New York as hurricane-force winds blow through the area. This storm is expected to bring more than 3 feet of lake-effect snow to the area and leave thousands more without power as conditions continue to worsen.

Roads are nearly impassable and whiteout conditions exist all over the area. Due to this, officials have closed the New York State Thruway and have issued a travel ban for all non-emergency travel throughout Erie County and in many other places in the 716 and 585.

Just when you thought travel couldn't get any worse, officials from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) have announced that the Airfield at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport (BNIA) is now closed due to this extreme weather and all flights into and out of Buffalo have been canceled until further notice.

While this announcement is shocking considering BNIA does not close very often, it's not a surprise considering weather conditions here in the Buffalo area.

In addition to the announcement that the Buffalo Niagara International Airport is closed, officials from the NFTA have also suspended all Metro Bus, metro Rail, and Metro Paratransit services until further notice as well.

This is a major snow event for Buffalo and New York State. If you do have to be out, please make sure you are prepared for blizzard conditions, below-freezing temperatures, zero visibility, and near 0° windchill.
