In the 6 years that have passed since the COVID-19 Pandemic changed just about everything in the way our day-to-day lives are led, downtown cores all over the nation are much different places than they were before the disease altered multiple aspects of our lives in March 2020.

If you were to take a stroll through downtown Buffalo in the summer of 2019, you would see thousands of folks walking around Main Street and its side streets looking for something to grab to eat for lunch, listening to live music, sitting at Fountain Plaza, and more. That is a much rarer sight to see now since many businesses shifted to remote work as a result of the pandemic, and it's been difficult to shift back.

However, the winds of change are abounding as many companies around America have been pushing to bring more workers back into the office, and two big Buffalo-based businesses are following suit.

M&T Bank & Delaware North Cos. Are Bringing More Workers Into Downtown Offices

The last year or two, we've seen a trend of companies amending or flat-out ending their work-from-home options for employees, as several companies are pushing for workers to spend more time in the office. While some workers are pushing back against this, many employers and business owners are welcoming the trend as it is seen as a way to boost workplace connectivity and increase the work-related economy in city centers.

This trend is happening right here in Buffalo as two large downtown businesses have announced they intend to bring more workers back into the office very soon.

According to WGRZ-TV and Buffalo Business First, respectively, Delaware North Companies and M&T Bank both have targets to increase the number of workers who are in their downtown offices within the coming months.

More than 6,500 M&T workers will be expected to be in the office at least 4-days per week, along with a large majority of the staff at Delaware North.

Having thousands more people downtown this spring and summer is expected to help many other businesses that have been struggling for foot traffic.
