Living in the Empire State often means that we pay a lot of money in taxes and fees. Now while that is something that we often complain about, one thing that is good about it is that we receive a lot of services in return for the price we pay.

One thing that is sure to come in handy for many people this summer is a program that is available to many New Yorkers.

What Is The New York State Clean and Tune Program?

Available to New Yorkers as part of the Home Energy Assistance Program, the Clean and Tune program allows households to receive energy efficiency services. Those services include the cleaning of primary heating equipment, plus often will include the cleaning of chimneys, along with various minor repairs, installation of carbon monoxide detectors or programmable thermostats, and more.

The State will cover the actual cost of these services, up to $500.

Like other state programs, different eligibility guidelines need to be met, in addition to income guidelines. Among other things you need to be the actual owner of the home that needs service, your equipment has to be more than 12 months old, and your equipment has to not have been cleaned within the last 12 months.

HEAP Can Also Repair or Replace Your Equipment If It's Damaged

If your heating or cooling equipment is beyond its life or not working very efficiently, HEAP can also help you with repairing or replacing that equipment.

Like the Clean and Tune Program, HEAP will help cover the actual cost of the repair or replacement. This year, eligible households can receive up to $4,000 for repairs, and up to $8,000 for replacement.

You can find out more information about this and other state programs right here on the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance HEAP program website.
