Every year, money that isn't returned to its rightful owner gets sent to the state, and they want to give it back to you.

How Much Money Does New York Have In Unclaimed Funds?

As of May 23rd, 2025, there is currently $20 billion dollars in money that is unclaimed. Some of the money comes from utility deposit refunds, closed bank accounts, and state refunds that were not collected.

Each day, New York gives back around $2 million dollars to its rightful owners.

How You Can Check To See If New York Owes You Money

It is really easy to check. The New York State Comptroller's Office has a website set up where you can search your name or the names of your family members and see if the state is holding onto any of your money.

How Do I Claim Money Owed To Me In New York State?

If you find out  that New York State has unclaimed money in your name, you can start the claiming process online HERE, or you can mail your claim to the state here:
