Get Potholes Filled By Doing This in New York
It's pothole season in the State of New York and this is how you can get them fixed.
It seems like that pothole you hit every day on your commute has been there forever, doesn't it? In fact, it's been there so long other people know about it and actively avoid it ahead of time. Sometimes you forget as suddenly your car hits the hole and readjust your alignment to your dismay. Potholes are no fun, and they cause millions of damage every year to people's vehicles.
Every winter new potholes, or old ones from last season, pop up on thruways, highways, and main and side roads throughout New York State and some honestly feel like they will never be repaired unless construction crews repave the entire road.
So why doesn't the government fill and repair them if there are so many?
The answer is they do when they know about them.
The truth is officials can't know where every pothole is. While some might seem obvious, others don't. This doesn't mean they don't care, though some counties are better about taking care of them than others. The probably is usually that they just don't know about them. They don't drive every road every day scouting for potholes. That would be time-consuming and costly to the taxpayers. They rely on you, and all of us, to report them so they can repair the potholes.

When you come across a pothole, don't just keep driving and swear about it. Instead, call this number and report where it is: 1-800-POTHOLE (1-800-768-4653).
Now this, of course, is only for state highways. If the pothole you want to report isn't on a state highway, then you need to call your county's Department of Public Works (DPW) which is a simple Google search.
Will your local DPW get the job done? They should. Again, some are better than others. What is a fact is that if you do not report the potholes they won't be fixing them because they won't know about them.
