The Buffalo Bills announced that they have agreed to a new four-year deal with running back James Cook.

The deal is worth $48 million and gives Cook $30 million guaranteed. But did the Bills make a mistake?

Buffalo Bills Make Mistake Extending James Cook

In my opinion, the Buffalo Bills made a mistake with James Cook. Now, before you start yelling at me, remember there were a lot of Bills Mafia who wanted the Bills to trade Cook when social posts came out stating he wanted $15 million a year.

Cook didn't get his $15 million, but $12 million per year is close, and this is where the mistake was made, in my opinion.

Cook is a good back, but he is not an every-down back. He isn't an old school, hand the ball off 20-25 times a game, and let him run. He isn't the kinda of runner like Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley.

Buffalo Bills Need Power Running Back

The Bills have "James Cook" type runners already on the roster with Ray Davis and Frank Gore Jr. If the team really wanted to limit the amount of running Josh Allen does, they need a tough nose, north/south runner you can run over people. Let the defense feel pain.

The Bills ran more than ever last year, but all the tough yards for the most part were picked up by Allen. You had no one to give the ball to and steamroll people.

If the NFL is turning back the clock to more old-school offense with more in-between-the-tackle running, Cook is not your guy, and now you are locked in with him for the next four years.

Josh Allen will be 32 when Cook's deal is over. Without a big bruising back, Allen will have to carry the run them over workload, and that is not ideal for your quarterback.

I think James Cook is a good running back, but not the type we need in Buffalo at $12 million per year.
