The Buffalo Bills Best Draft Pick In 2022
Now is the time to start looking forward to the release of the 2022 NFL schedule. It’s the last major off-season event before we lay low and get ready for training camp at the end of July.
The 2022 NFL Draft is over and done with; and the Buffalo Bills are happy with the selections they have made.
The Bills addresses cornerback in round one, which was probably the biggest need position according to fans and experts. Kaiir Elam of Florida was picked 23rd overall by Buffalo.
The Bills also helped out the running back position with Georgia’s James Cook in round two and even grabbed a punter in round six (Matt Araiza of San Diego State).
However, I think Brandon Beane’s best draft pick was not on day one or two, but came on day three in the fifth round.
The Bills traded up 20 spots from pick 168 to 148 to select Boise State wide receiver, Khalil Shakir.
From the beginning, I thought wide receiver needed to be addressed at some point in the draft. While it came later than I imagined, getting Shakir in round 5 was an absolute steal.
Shakir was discussed as a potential 3rd round pick, so the Bills got tremendous value.
He’s not a huge WR — 5’11 and 196 lbs., but he has great hands, athleticism and amazing body control who knows how to get open. He’s also a returner and even ran the ball at Boise State.
Shakir should compete for the punter returner duties and even if he doesn’t have a ton of snaps at WR in 2022, I think he moves into the Bills main slot receiver role by 2023 and beyond.
Shakir could be the steal of the draft for the Bills.
