When Krispy Kreme first arrived in Upstate New York in the early 2000s, it caused a frenzy. Newly opened locations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany, among others, literally had traffic jams and lines of people waiting out the door who wanted to get their hands on one of their warm, fresh, delicious doughnuts.

Then it seemed like suddenly, the craze was over. The "low-carb" movement became popular, and store after store began to close their doors. Now, the only Krispy Kreme locations left in the Empire State are in New York City.

You can still get their doughnuts at Walmart locations across New York State, but we’ve gotta say, it’s just not the same.

Now, those of us with a hankering for a hot Krispy Kreme can rejoice - they’re coming back!

Welcome back, Krispy Kreme! We hate to admit how much we missed you.

Earlier this week, the doughnut chain revealed plans to team up with McDonald’s to offer their products in their locations.

We’re not sure exactly when we’ll be able to get out hands on them, but beginning later this year, McDonald’s will roll out Krispy Kreme original glazed, chocolate iced with sprinkles, and filled chocolate iced doughnuts at select locations, with availability nationwide by the end of next year. Customers can buy them individually or in a box of six.

Both companies are excited about the deal, with Krispy Kreme CEO and President Josh Charlesworth saying,

“By making Kreme Krispy accessible to fans nationwide through this partnership, we expect to more than double our points of access by the end of 2026.”

Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer for McDonald’s, Tariq Hassan, added that their partnership gave the chain a chance to “unlock new business opportunities.”

And most importantly, it gives those of us who miss Krispy Kreme doughnuts a chance to grab one whenever we want!

Imagine getting to grab a warm, Krispy Kreme doughnut whenever you’re near a McDonald’s (and aren’t we always close to one?) without having to wait in a massive line. That sounds super dangerous– and so epic.
