Do you have a child who might be interested in going fishing, but you're not interested in buying all the gear until you know they'll love it?  Then this event is for you.

It's easy as a parent to get a bit excited and then go a little overboard.  Your kid says they want to play a certain sport or try a specific activity and suddenly you need hundreds of dollars in gear to help ensure that they're going to love their first experience.  So you buy all the equipment and take them out for their first day, only to find out that they don't really like it all that much after all.

That's what this event is for.

It's a free fishing event where kids (or adults) can learn to fish at some of Erie County's best parks for free.

Not only is the event free, but they will even have some equipment there for you to use if you don't have your own. This way, if you're not sure that your child (or you) will like it, you don't have to be hundreds of dollars in the hole just to give it a try.  However, if you do have your own equipment, they strongly encourage you to bring it and save the rods that they have for those who do not own any.

It's about an hour-and-a-half-long course aimed at children and their parents.  The rangers will be there to teach the basics of fishing and they'll even have rods and reels, and some bait like worms and corn.  You won't even need a license to fish for the day because they have received an exemption from the NYSDEC.

If you think this sounds like something you might want to try, you will have to be registered before you go.  Click here to get signed up!
